As I sat down today, I wanted to share a special message. I was thinking about all you. But my main thoughts were towards my fellow teachers, parents, and homeschoolers. Those of us that work to inspire and help young children grow. I wanted to talk about something that I believe we all have inside of us. That something is the power of positive thinking.
You may not realize this, but you can often control how a situation is perceived. Whether you're parenting, teaching, or guiding young learners, you have within your power the ability to shift not only your mindset, but the mindsets of the people you interact with. That's why I believe that learning to harness your thoughts can make a big difference.
The Colors of Thought
Think of your thoughts like colors on a paint palette. Positive thoughts are the bright, bold colors that bring energy, hope, and creativity into your day. They help us try new things, stay open to others, and approach life with curiosity and courage.

The Impact of Negativity
Negative thoughts, on the other hand, are like clouds over your canvas. They dim your mood and hold you back. When we carry this kind of energy into our homes or classrooms, it can affect the kids around us more than we realize. Our outlook often becomes the atmosphere they grow in.

Battling the Inner Critic
I’ve worn many hats over the years — from teaching kindergarteners to challenging gifted students — and I still catch myself battling negative thoughts. As teachers and caregivers, we often hold ourselves to really high standards, and that can invite a lot of self-criticism.
Treating Yourself Like a Student
One day, it hit me: I would never let my students talk about themselves the way I sometimes talk to myself. So why do I let that happen in my own head? We deserve the same encouragement, patience, and kindness that we give to our kids.
Embracing the Superpower
Positive thinking isn’t just a nice idea — it’s a real superpower. Imagine how things could change if we gave ourselves the same pep talks and belief we give our students. That shift can open doors we didn’t even know were closed.

Achieving the Extraordinary
When we stay positive, we’re more willing to take risks, try new things, and bounce back when something doesn’t go right. A positive mindset helps build the kind of resilience that leads to growth — not just for kids, but for us too.
Conclusion
So here’s a challenge for all of us. Let’s try to think a little more kindly toward ourselves. Let’s shift our focus, clear out the self-doubt, and fill our days with the kind of encouragement we so freely give to others. You never know what amazing things you’ll do when you start believing in yourself.
